Text Box: TAMPA, FL - Following the conclusion of the first meeting of the Executive Committee of the newly reformed Southern Party of Florida, Kevin Floyd of Lutz, was elected as the new Chairperson by a 5-1 margin. The election was held in the North Dale area of Tampa just south of Lutz near Van Dyke Road.

Chairperson Floyd’s term will last for a period of 4 years per the newly revised Charter of the SPFL which will make him the leader of both the Southern independence and political movements in the State of Florida until 2012 when the next election will be held. Another key revision of the Charter by the former provisional committee removed any term limitations associated with the Office of the Chairpersonship and instead left it open ended.

The decision to revise and in many cases remove safety gaps associated with the Office of the Chairperson was seen as a necessity if the party hopes to avoid future conflicts which could damage or under mind the party’s growth. The original SPFL (1999-2003) was hindered by a leadership crisis following a string of resignations which ultimately lead to the dissolution of the party 2003. The leadership of the newly reformed SPFL seeks to avoid a repeat of the party’s 2003 dissolution and feels that the best way to accomplish this is to ensure a stable leader and avoid excessive and or frequent changes of leadership.
